History of Royal Museum Kedah

Royal Museum is an old palace that was once inhabited by some of the Sultan of Kedah. Various names are given as Kota Setar Palace, the Great Palace Wan Mak, Pelamin Palace or the House of Thrones. This castle was completed in 1735 when the opening Alor Setar Kedah as the administrative center of the 8th by Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal objective Mu'adzam Shah II (1710-1778).

During World War II, Japanese forces had occupied the castle and later also used as the headquarters of several organizations before left unattended. In 1983, the palace was restored and used in conjunction with the Royal Museum celebrates the Silver Jubilee celebration of the reign of HRH Tunku Abdul Halim of Kedah and inaugurated by him on 25 July 1983.
